Head

Begin with Jade yarn.

Round 1: MR of 6 (6)
Round 2: 6 inc (12)
Round 3: (1sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Round 4: 18sc
Round 5: (2sc, inc) x 6 (24)
Round 6: (3sc, inc) x 6 (30)
Round 7: 9sc, BLO: 5sc, 16sc (30)
Round 8: 5 sl st, BLO: 3 sc, 3 dec, BLO: 3 sc, 12 sl st (27)
Round 9: dec, 4sc, dec, FLO: 1hdc, 1dbl, 2dbl in the same stitch; FLO: (in the same stitch): 1 dbl, 1 trbl, 1 dbl; FLO: 2dbl in the same stitch, 1dbl, 1hdc; BOTH loops: dec, 4sc, 4 dec (25)
Round 10: 3 dec, (BLO: 2sc, dec) x 3, 3 dec (15)

Stuff head and shape mouth area to prepare it for the red and pink felt insert we will be making.

Round 11: (2sc, dec) x 5 (10)
Round 12: sl st, clip yarn, using a yarn needle sew up the head by inserting your needle into every front loop of the last 10 stitches. Pull tight, using the rest of the yarn tail sculpt the mouth of Venusaur to form the correct shape. Leave the tail for sewing the head to the body.

Ears

Insert your hook between rows 3 and 4 and single crochet directly onto Venusaur's head. Single crochet 5 into the same stitch to create the ear. Tie off, clip and hide your yarn tails. Cut a small red triangle of felt and using the fabri-tac glue the triangles into place.

Eyes

Cut 4 half circles out of the red and white felt: 2 larger half white circles and 2 smaller red half circles. Once the fabric glue dries using Jade yarn and a yarn needle create eyelids over the tops of the eyes by sewing back and forth over the eyes.

Mouth

Cut pink and red felt to fit inside the space we made for the mouth. The pink shape should be slightly smaller than the red so that there is a thin red outline all the way around the mouth. Using fabri-tac glue the pieces in place, red first and then pink. Next embroider two black nostrils directly above the mouth using the black embroidery thread and needle. Finally add Venusaur's teeth, he has a total of six teeth; four on the bottom row and two on the top corners. I make the bottom teeth using french knots and the white embroidery thread, I make the top teeth by simply sewing back and forth between the rows above the mouth.

Body

Begin with Jade yarn. Stuff body as you go.

Round 1: MR of 6 (6)
Round 2: 6 inc (12)
Round 3: (1sc, inc) x 6 (18)
Round 4: (2sc, inc) x 6 (24)
Round 5-12: 8 rows - 24sc
Round 13: (2sc, dec) x 6 (18)
Round 14: (1sc, dec) x 6 (12)
Round 15: 6 dec (6) sl st, clip yarn and weave in ends

Legs: make 4

Begin with Jade yarn.

Round 1: MR of 6 (6)
Round 2: BLO: 6sc
Round 3: 6sc (6)
Round 4: 6 inc (12)
Round 5: 12sc, sl st, clip yarn, leave a tail for sewing

Add details:  Add three toes to each front leg using the cream colored yarn. Tie and hide your yarn tails inside each leg.

Assemble your Pokémon to this point by sewing on the front and back legs and the head. Using french knots add bumps all over your Venusaur. I add three bumps to each of legs and 2-4 bumps on each side of the body before adding the flower.

Leaves (make 5):

Round 1: ch 9
Round 2: 1sc, ch 1; repeat that pattern up the foundation chain, 3sc at the top of the chain into the same stitch to turn your work. Next work your way back down the opposite side of the leaf with the same pattern 1sc, ch 1, sl st at the end then clip yarn leaving a tail for sewing.

Tie the leaves together with their yarn tails then sew the bunch of leaves directly onto Venusaur's back. Weave in all the loose tails.

Flower on Venusaur's Back:

Begin with Brown for the stem:

Round 1: MR of 6 (6)
Round 2: BLO: 6sc (6)
Round 3-4: 2 rows - 6sc (6)

Switch to yellow on last stitch of round 4

Round 5: 6sc (6)
Round 6: 6sc (6)

Sew stem onto Venusaur's back directly in the center of the leaves using the yellow yarn tail. You can sew directly down the stem's center tube onto the Venusaur securing the stem in place.

Flower Petals (make 6):

Begin with the Pink yarn:

Round 1: ch 7, turn
Round 2: sc back along the chain (6) ch 1 turn
Round 3: sc back along the piece (6) sl st, clip yarn, weave in shorter end and leave longer end for sewing

Sew the flower petals in between the yellow part of the stem and the brown part of the stem so that the yellow continues to stick up and out of the flower. Hide your pink yarn tails down the stem of the plant on Venusaur's back.

Cut 12 small white "dots" out of the white felt for the flower petals. I put one small dot and one larger dot on every petal using the fabri-tac.

And that's it!! We are finished making Venusaur! I let him rest for 24 hours to let all the fabri-tac stiffen and harden. Thank you so much for crocheting along with me today! Head/Body

Begin with Jade yarn.

Round 1: MR of 6 (6)
Round 2: 6 inc (12)
Round 3: (1sc, inc) (18)
Round 4: 8sc, 4sc popcorn, 8sc, 4sc popcorn (18)

Round 9: 2sc, 10 inc, 2sc, BLO: 5 dec, (27)
Round 10: 22sc, (hdc 2tog) x 3 (24)

Take a minute to embroider the face details onto the Ivysaur: green triangles with the patty yarn on the forehead with a yarn needle, a thin smile, nostrils and eyebrows with the black embroidery thread, and two triangle teeth using the white embroidery thread. Add black triangles on each ear to accentuate the inside of the ear.

I add these details now because it is easier to embroider them on before stuffing the head and closing the body. Once these details are in place, stuff the head portion firmly.

Round 11-13: 3 rows - 24sc (24)
Round 14: 18sc, FLO: 6 dec (18)
Round 15: (1sc, dec) (12)
Round 16: (6 dec) (6)

Sew up the bottom of the Ivysaur by inserting your yarn needle through the back loop of every stitch then pull tight creating a nice circle. Hide your yarn, tie off and trim. Go ahead and add the spots on his back with the patty yarn at this point as well.

Front Legs: make 2

Begin with Jade yarn.

Round 1: MR of 6 (6)
Round 2: BLO: 6sc (6)
Round 3-4: 2 rows - 6sc (6) sl st, clip yarn, stuff firmly, leave a tail for sewing

Add details: Add the green patches with the Patty Green yarn by weaving back and forth into the legs. I put two patches on each front leg. Add three toes to each front leg using the cream colored yarn and the same method. Tie and hide your yarn tails inside each leg.

Back Legs: make 2

Begin with Jade yarn.

Round 1: MR of 6 (6)
Round 2: BLO: 6sc (6)
Round 3: 1sc, 3 inc, 2sc (9) sl st clip yarn

Add details: Add the green patches with the Patty Green yarn by weaving back and forth into the legs. I put one thicker patch on each back leg. Add three toes to each back leg using the cream colored yarn and the same method. Tie and hide your tails inside each leg.

Assemble your Pokémon to this point by sewing on the front and back legs.

Bloom on Ivysaur's Back:

Leaves (make 4):

Using Spring Green create 4 leaves in this fashion:

Round 1: ch 5, turn
Round 2: sc 4, sc 3 more into the last chain on the foundation chain to turn then sc 4 down the opposite side of the foundation chain creating an oval shape. (11)
Round 3: BLO: sl st into the next stitch around, chain 2 breaking free from the oval, sl st back to the main oval and into the next stitch.
Round 4: ch 3, sl st back to the main oval and over to the next stitch.
Round 5: ch 2, sl st back to the main oval and over to the next stitch.
Round 6: ch 3, sl st back to the main oval and over to the next stitch.
Round 7: sl st into next stitch around the oval, ch 3, sl st back to main oval and over to the next stitch.
Round 8: ch 2, sl st back to main oval and over to the next stitch.
Round 9: ch 2, sl st back to main oval and over to the next stitch.
Round 10: ch 3, sl st back to main oval, sl st 3 more stitches and clip yarn, leave a tail for sewing.

Sew the leaves onto Ivysaur's back.

Closed Bloom:

Create the bloom using cherry red or pink yarn. I originally made the bloom with the red yarn but as I read more about the Pokemon Character I found out that the bloom was actually supposed to be pink! I really liked how the red blossom turned out but if you are wanting it to be as closesly matched to the character as possible I would go with the pink. Live and learn right?

Round 1: ch 21
Round 2: 3 hdc into each stitch for the next 10 stitches; 3 dc into each stitch for the next 5 stitches; 3 trbl into each stitch for the next 5 stitches

Curl the yarn into a flower bloom shape. Sew in place. Sew onto Ivysaurs back directly in the center of the leaves.

Eyes:

Cut two pieces of white felt into triangles. Then cut two pieces of red felt into smaller triangles that will easily fit inside and match the inside corner tips of the white triangles. Last cut two small slits of black felt to fit perfectly inside of the smaller red triangle. Using fabric glue attach the white triangles in place on Ivysaur's face. Hold for about 10 seconds to make sure they are secure. Next; taking your red triangles, glue them onto the inner corner of the eyes (closest area to the nose) again holding for about 10 seconds. Then very carefully glue your black slits into place directly in the center of the red triangles. Trim up edges if needed once secure.

**Tips: Careful not to put too much fabric glue on as it can sneak out and run ruining the entire look of your project. You can use a needle tip to apply tiny amounts of glue if pieces are not sticking completely around the edges.

Round 9: 2sc, 10 inc, 2sc, BLO: 4 dec, (28)
Round 10: BLO: 1sc, 27sc (28)

Take a minute to add the green triangles with the patty yarn on the forehead with a yarn needle. I add these details now because it is easier to sew them on before stuffing the head and closing the body. Once the triangles are in place stuff the head portion.

Round 11: 20sc, 4 dec (24)
Round 12-13: 2 rows - 24 sc (24)
Round 14: (2sc, dec) x 6 (18)
Round 15: (1sc, dec) x 6 (12)
Round 16: 6 dec (6)

Sew up the bottom of the Bulbasaur by inserting your yarn needle through the back loop of every stitch then pull tight creating a nice circle. Hide your yarn, tie off and trim.

Front Legs: make 2

Begin with Jade yarn.

Round 1: MR of 4 (4)
Round 2-5: 4 rows - 4sc (4) sl st, clip yarn, leave a tail for sewing

Add details: Add the green patches with the Patty Green yarn by weaving back and forth into the legs. I put two patches on each front leg. Add three toes to each front leg using the cream colored yarn and the same method. Tie and hide your yarn tails inside each leg.

Back Legs: make 2

Begin with Jade yarn.

Round 4: 8sc (8)
Round 5: 1sc, 2 dec, 3sc (6) sl st, clip yarn, leave a tail for sewing

Add details: Add the green patches with the Patty Green yarn by weaving back and forth into the legs. I put one thicker patch on each back leg. Add three toes to each back leg using the cream colored yarn and the same method. Tie and hide your tails inside each leg.

Assemble your Pokémon to this point by sewing on the front and back legs in a frog standing position.

Seed on Bulbasaur's Back:

Begin with Spring Green

Round 1: MR of 6 (6)
Round 2: 6 inc (12)
Round 3: (1sc, inc) (18)
Round 4: (2sc, inc) (24)
Round 5: 24sc
Round 6: (2sc, dec) (18)

Begin adding stuffing.

Round 7: (1sc, dec) (12)
Round 8: 6 dec (6)
Round 9: 6sc BLO (6)

Cut yarn. Leave a long tail and sew four distinct sides for the seed by inserting your needle directly through the top center of the seed and coming back through the bottom of the seed. Repeat that four times to create four creases for the seed. Pull tight and tie off your work. Sew the seed directly onto Bulbasaur's back.

Eyes:

Cut two pieces of white felt into half circles. Cut two smaller pieces of red felt in the same shape for the iris. To get an idea and most precision for the eyes insert two sewing pins into the exact places you want the eyes to go. Using the fabric glue, glue the white part of the eyes onto the Bulbasaur first, removing the sewing pins as you work. Once the fabric glue has had time to sit (I give it about one minute of pressing down firmly) place a tiny dot of glue onto the white part of the eye directly where you want to place the red part of the eye. Glue both red pieces into place. Let this sit undisturbed over night or 24 hours.
