Aang Beanie
Patterns for Prayers
The past two blog posts have been a little different than My Pokemon Project and are very special projects. I received a message asking if I could crochet a couple of beanies for a 14 year old young man battling cancer. I really wanted to get started right away on these patterns instead of waiting until my entire Pokemon Project is complete. I hope you enjoy these two patterns. The first one was the Rasta Beanie and the second is this one, the Aang Beanie. Aang is a character from the American animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, and I really love how this beanie turned out! It is a fairly simple pattern and is a little different and unique.
Both patterns will also have a YouTube: How To on my channel Crochet By Katie Humes and will be easy enough to follow for new or beginner crocheters. Thank you for all the messages and support I have received for these projects and the Pokemon projects, it is hard not to get emotional thinking of what these projects bigger purpose is and I am filled with gratitude as I share these patterns with the world.

The Beanie:
Begin with Buff Yarn and work in continuous round.
Round 1: Create a MR, ch3, 9dbl into the MR (10)
Round 2: 1dbl inc in every stitch around. (20)
Round 3: 1dbl, 1dbl inc, repeat that pattern all the way around (30)

Round 8-12: (5 rows) 1dbl in every stitch (70)
Round 13: 5dbl, 1dbl dec, repeat that pattern all the way around (60)
Round 14: sc in every stitch around (60)
Finish off the beanie with a sl st and weave in the tail.
The Arrow:
The arrow needed to be long enough to reach the back side of the beanie because all of the pictures I have looked up for Aang show that his arrow actually flows down his back from his head, so I decided to make the arrow as long as I possibly could on the beanie.
Round 1: ch 8 (8)
Round 2: hdbl into the 4th chain from the hook, hdbl to the end of the row (5)
Round 3-28: (26 rows) ch 2, turn, hdbl in every stitch (5)
Round 29: ch 4, turn your work, 8sc back across, ch 4 off the opposite side, turn your work, 3sc back to the main strip and sl st underneath the bridge you created to the main strip.
Round 30: working down the main strip, sc around the entire blue strip, adding 3sc stitches at each corner for a better shape, I ended with 78 stitches but it does not have to be exactly 78 just make sure your stitches look clean where you enter your hook (78)
Round 31: When you reach the top of your main strip you will begin making the triangle shape for the arrow. hdbl accross this row where we left the floating edges (12)
Round 32: ch 2, turn, 1hdbl dec, 8hdbl, 1hdbl dec (10)
Round 33: ch 2, turn, 1hdbl in every stitch (10)
Round 34: ch 2, turn, 1hdbl dec, 6 hdbl, 1hdbl dec (8)
Round 35: ch 2, turn, 1hdbl dec, 4 hdbl, 1hdbl dec (6)
Round 36: ch 2, turn, 1hdbl dec, 2 hdbl, 1hdbl dec (4)
Round 37: ch 2, turn, 2hdbl dec (2)
Round 38: ch 2, turn, 1hdbl dec; at this poing do not turn or clip yarn but instead hdbl around the entire boarder of the arrow inserting 3hdbl into each of the corner stitches to create clean edges; once you reach the very top of the arrow at the end sl st into the point and leave a long tail for sewing the arrow in place.
Pin the arrow to the beanie and sew into place.
Thank you so much for crocheting along with me today! I hope you like this pattern as much as I do. Have a wonderful day!!
